  1. The fact that six people drowned in attempting to save a chicken that fell into a well in Egypt illustrates par excellence how man fails to use common sense at times.

    No person should have gone into the well to try to save the chicken, since doing so was much too dangerous a task.

    A much wiser way to save the chicken would have been to use a long pole with a net at the end of it (similar to the type used to clean a swimming pool) which could have caught the chicken and lifted it out of the well. Doing that would have saved six lives — as well as the chicken.
