Pick and Choose

“The term heresy is derived from the Greek word …. which means ‘to take for oneself’ or ‘to choose.’ Heresy has the connotation of picking or choosing what one wants to believe while disregarding the fullness of the authoritative theological doctrines of the Church. While the Fathers expressed their common ecclesial experience of the living God through their shared teachings, the heresiarchs (‘archheretics’ – the instigators of heretical movements), who separated themselves from this experience, arrived at their misguided conclusions individually – on their own.”
