Honor Takes Precedence
- Montenegro Rally
More than 30,000 demonstrators have gathered for a protest rally in Podgorica on Monday, demonstrating against Milo Djukanovic’s decision to recognize Kosovo Albanians’ unilateral declaration of independence. According to Vecernje Novosti, this was “the most massive gathering in Montenegro in the past several decades”.
The massive rally turned to dramatic riots towards the end, with protesters breaking through the fence in front of Montenegro parliament building in capital Podgorica and throwing firecrackers and stones, to which police, according to one Montenegro opposition leader, reacted by firing “inordinate amounts of tear gas” into the crowd. According to Tanjug, Montenegro police also fired rubber bullets at demonstrators. Several Serbian news agencies report that 22 protesters are injured, and the medical emergency vehicles are seen intervening, as police arrested several dozen protesters.
During the rally police helicopters were flying over Podgorica downtown, where the traffic was blocked, while the police cordons were securing the parliament and presidential buildings, as well as foreign embassies.
Demonstrations against Djukanovic regime’s recognition of a fake state on Serbian territory, under the motto “Honor is more important” (Obraz je preci), were organized by the six Montenegro opposition parties.
- Montenegro Government to Annul its Recognition of a Fake State
SNP MP Vasilije Lalosevic opened the rally by reading out protesters’ demands to be sent to the Montenegrin government, which was met with the crowd’s strong cheers of support. The demonstrators are demanding that the government annuls its recognition of Kosovo and Metohija province by Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 11:00 CET, with parliament simultaneously announcing a referendum on the same issue.
If these demands are rejected, Lalosevic said, the Montenegro president must call early elections, to be held by the end of this year.
The protesters arrived carrying Serbian flags and banners that read, “Kosovo, NATO state of horrors”, and, “It’s a sin to keep quiet about Serbs’ troubles”. They are also displaying photographs of the kidnapped and murdered Kosovo Serbs. They are calling PM Djukanovic a traitor and chanting “Treason, Treason!”, “Kosovo is Serbia” and “Kosovo is Heart of Serbia”.
- “No-One has Ever Done This to His Own State and Nation…”
President of the People’s Party Predrag Popovic said that Podgorcia regime “by recognizing the non-existent state of Kosovo had sent a message that he renounced Montenegro”.
“This is the first time, since the state of Montenegro exists, that one regime does something no other regime has ever done to its own state and nation,” Popovic said.
“This is the first time someone is trying to annul his whole history. It is the first time that someone, in the name of Montenegro, renounced the territory which represents the Arc of the Covenant of our history, faith, culture, honor and existence,” said Popovic.
“This is the first time someone dared, in the name of Montenegro, to issue an authorization to those who are seizing our common holy cradle, saying this is no longer ours, but the property of Kosovo and Metohija thieves,” Popovic said.
He accused Montenegro government of signing Montenegro up on the list of “overt enemies of brotherly Serbia, and at the hardest moment for our brothers”.
- Simo Spasic: Montenegro Police was Trying to Provoke me
Montenegro police had arrested Simo Spasic, president of the Association of the Families of the Kidnapped and Killed Kosovo Serbs, around 11 a.m., as he was about the enter Podgorica, where he came to take part in the protest rally against Djukanovic’s decision to recognize Serbian Kosovo-Metohija province as an independent state.
After he was released, Spasic told Serbian reporters he believes he was released thanks to the reaction of the media.
“They held me locked in for four and the half hours, they were trying to provoke me, asking what do I think about Serbs in Kosovo institutions, what do I think about Montenegrins, about Milo Djukanovic…”, Spasic said.
He explained he was arrested because the police concluded the banners and framed panels with pictures of the kidnapped and missing Kosovo Serbs he had in his car were a “propaganda material”.

Yes, Ilija, unfortunately after posting this I also read that there were between 7 to 10,000.
“More than 30,000…”
First word is lie.
All media, Montenegrin, Serbian, Western, even Rusian reported 7-10,000.
